HARARE — A teenager’s opportunistic theft of a Toyota Allion from a Glenview shopping centre ended abruptly this week when he crashed the vehicle while being chased by its owner.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of 18-year-old Prince Bhunu on January 3, 2026, following the brazen incident at Makomva Shopping Centre. Follow & Share Our WhatsApp Channel
The vehicle’s owner had parked the car and stepped away, leaving the keys in the ignition. Bhunu allegedly took advantage of the oversight, climbing in and driving off.
The owner quickly gave chase, pursuing the stolen vehicle until it was involved in an accident along Highglen Road, leading to the suspect’s prompt arrest.
Police have again urged motorists to avoid leaving keys in unattended vehicles, warning that such lapses in security can invite crime.
