South Africa's Border Management Authority (BMA), supported by the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), has intercepted over 20 minors aged 5-17 near the Limpopo River by the Beitbridge border fence. The group was traveling with 10 adults, but authorities confirmed only one parent-child relationship. The rest of the children were unaccompanied by lawful guardians.
BMA Commissioner Dr. Michael Masiapato said the case raised serious concerns about child protection, possible exploitation, and violations of immigration laws. "The safety of vulnerable persons, especially children, remains our top priority," Dr. Masiapato said. "All individuals are now under the care of appropriate authorities .
In a related development, Zimbabwean officials arrested 3,640 people in December for illegal migration. Twenty-seven travelers were also denied entry over visa issues. Border operations have intensified as pressure mounts to control illegal crossings along the Limpopo corridor .
