On Saturday, 20 September, Marondera witnessed a heartfelt wedding ceremony at Barnies Pre-school as Charles Muchakagara and Privilege Mugumo united in marriage. The event brought together family, friends, and community members in a joyous celebration marked by love, tradition, and resilience.
The ceremony, led by Reverend Charinge of the United Methodist Church, opened with a solemn prayer followed by the signing of the marriage documents. Emotions ran high as Privilege openly expressed her deep gratitude to Charles for his steadfast support during her courageous fight against cancer in 2014, highlighting the strength of their bond through adversity.
Both families shared heartfelt reflections, emphasizing that this union symbolized not only the joining of two individuals but also the merging of their families. Guests enjoyed a communal meal, honoring the Shona saying, “hukama igasva hunozadziswa nekudya,” which means relationships are strengthened by sharing food.
The celebration continued with lively music, cake cutting, and the exchange of gifts. A memorable highlight was when Charles’s colleagues, led by Master of Ceremony Captain Mwafisheni — affectionately known as Boss Fishers — presented the couple with a brand-new Canon 70D camera, a thoughtful gift that moved Charles deeply.
As the day drew to a close, the newlyweds expressed sincere thanks to their guests, sharing a simple yet powerful message about the enduring importance of love and unity.
Charles and Privilege’s wedding was more than a ceremony; it stood as a testament to lasting love, family ties, and the strength of community spirit.
