JOHANNESBURG – In a heartfelt message to her fans, award-winning South African musician Makhadzi has revealed she faces a 10-week medical hiatus from the stage, a direct result of a "terrifying" car crash on New Year's Eve.
The vibrant performer, whose real name is Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, was involved in a serious accident on the N1 highway while en route from her home province of Limpopo to a scheduled headline performance in Johannesburg on December 31, 2025. She was subsequently rushed to a private hospital in Polokwane for treatment.
Breaking her silence via a detailed Facebook post on Monday, January 5, 2026, a grateful Makhadzi announced her discharge but confirmed doctors have mandated a period of complete rest at home, effectively sidelining her from performances until mid-March.
"To all my lovely khadzinators, my fans. Thank you for the love and support you have been showing me during this difficult time," she wrote, addressing her devoted fanbase. "I feel a need to update you about my health at this point because of the love and support you have been showing me, not only in South Africa but also to all my African followers globally."
While acknowledging the coming weeks "might feel lonely," the "Ghanama" hitmaker has chosen to frame this forced pause as a divine opportunity for creative renewal. She indicated her recovery period will be spent not in idleness, but in the studio.
"I won't be performing, but I will be in the studio doing what He saved me for..." Makhadzi stated, adding, "...and also not forgetting to thank Him for giving me a SECOND CHANCE TO BREATHE."
The singer concluded her emotional update with a poignant Venda proverb, "Zwinzhi ridozwiamba ngamurahu," which translates to "Many things will be said later." This has sparked speculation among fans about potential future disclosures regarding the circumstances of the crash. Follow & Share Our WhatsApp Channel
The accident has sent shockwaves through the South African entertainment industry, highlighting the intense physical demands and travel risks faced by artists, particularly during the hectic festive season. Promoters for her cancelled New Year's Eve show have expressed their relief at her survival and have pledged support.
As messages of solidarity and well-wishes continue to flood her social media, Makhadzi's focus now shifts to healing and what she suggests will be a period of profound artistic reflection, born from a brush with tragedy. Her global community of Khadzinators will be waiting, hoping her promised "beautiful melodies" emerge from this unexpected second chance.
