BINGA – A man was killed by lions on the night of March 25, 2026, in Makonda Village, under Chief Sinansengwe in Binga District, after the animals attacked him near the village. The attack has left villagers in fear, as lions have been sighted roaming the area in recent days.
According to reports from the village, the man encountered the lions late at night while he was outside. The animals attacked him before anyone could intervene. When villagers later arrived at the scene of the attack, they discovered that the lions had already devoured most of his body.
On the same day, another incident occurred in Makonda Village when a young boy herding cattle encountered the lions. The boy quickly ran away to save his life, leaving the cattle behind.
Villagers have expressed concern, stating that lions now pose a significant threat to both humans and livestock. Many residents are afraid to go to the fields, herd cattle, or walk at night due to fear of further attacks.
At the time of writing this report, officers from the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority had not yet arrived at the scene. Villagers are urging wildlife authorities to act promptly to remove the lions and ensure the safety of the community.
