Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Emmanuel Matatu, presided over the promotion of Brigadier General Tom Jefter Munongwa to the rank of Major General upon his retirement. The ceremony honored Munongwa's distinguished career in the corps of engineers and his contributions to the evolution of the defence forces.
Gen Matatu praised Munongwa's long-standing role in the corps of engineers and his representation of Zimbabwe abroad. He said Munongwa's impact is seen in the evolution of the defence forces. "Major General Munongwa has served the Zimbabwe Defence Forces from its inception in the corps of engineers, seen its evolution, and contributed immensely to its development," Gen Matatu said.
Gen Matatu encouraged Munongwa to remain connected to the institution even in retirement, saying, "You retire and you go into your retirement, please do not isolate yourself from the organisation." He congratulated Munongwa on his achievements and thanked him for his service.
In his remarks, Major General Munongwa expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the mentorship and support of his commanders. He said, "It is basically through your support, your guidance, your mentorship, and belief in my abilities that culminated into this day's recognition." Munongwa also thanked his family for their support and encouragement throughout his career .
