A car import agent, Kundayi Abraham (31), has appeared in court facing fraud charges after allegedly duping a Harare man of US$9,182 by falsely claiming he could import two vehicles from Japan.
According to the State, Abraham was engaged by Genius Tinotenda Mukosera to import a Toyota Aqua and a Mercedes-Benz from Japan. Abraham allegedly charged a total of US$9,182 to import and deliver the vehicles, which Mukosera paid in full. However, after the agreed delivery period elapsed, Mukosera reportedly followed up on the delivery, only for Abraham to make excuses and buy time.
Abraham was charged with fraud and appeared before Harare magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzai. The matter was remanded to February 2. The State alleges that Abraham's misrepresentation resulted in a financial prejudice of US$9,182 to Mukosera, with nothing recovered to date.
The case will continue on February 2, where Abraham will face the allegations against him. If convicted, he could face serious penalties for his actions .
