Cde Chirinda declared a  national hero by the government

Cde Chirinda, a veteran of Zimbabwe's liberation struggle, has been declared a national hero by the government. He passed away on March 9, 2026, at the age of 82 and joined the struggle in 1965. Cde Chirinda served as District Administrator for Rusape and Provincial Administrator for Mashonaland Central.

His body will be evacuated from Charles Gumbo Barracks to Chirinda Homestead in Kanyuru village, Nyanga, on March 15, 2026, between 9:00 am and 10:00 am. At 12:00 pm, the body will be transported to Rusape Backshill farm. Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Minister Mugadza, will lead the program.
