The case involving Chatunga Mugabe and Tobias Mugabe Matonhodze was postponed to 24 March 2026 after the State informed the court that a plea deal between the parties was nearing completion. The two appeared before the Alexandra Magistrate Court on 17 March 2026, but the matter could not proceed as the prosecution indicated it was not yet ready to continue.

Court proceedings revealed that discussions around a plea agreement are now at an advanced stage, with only a few final details remaining to be settled before the deal can be concluded. As a result, the matter was rolled over to next Tuesday.

This latest development comes just days after the pair withdrew their bail applications last Wednesday when it emerged that they were allegedly staying in the country illegally. That revelation shifted the direction of the case and raised fresh attention around their immigration status.

If the plea agreement is finalised before the next hearing, it is expected to play a key role in determining how the matter progresses when the two return to court.
