Eleven suspects have been arrested in connection with a mass shooting that left nine people dead at a tavern in South Africa on Sunday. Police launched a manhunt for 12 unidentified gunmen who opened fire on patrons at around 01:00 local time (23:00 GMT Saturday) in the Bekkersdal establishment, near Johannesburg.
The suspects, including nine Lesotho nationals and one Mozambican, were found in possession of unlicensed firearms, such as an AK-47 rifle. A South African mineworker was also detained for allegedly harbouring the suspects .https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaJBte43bbV50PSJqU20
Preliminary investigations suggest a motive linked to illegal mining turf wars. The shooting occurred just two weeks after another attack at the Saulsville Hostel in Pretoria, where 11 people were killed. South Africa has one of the highest murder rates in the world, with licensed and unlicensed firearms contributing to the violence .
