Residents of Tongogara Refugee Settlement in Chipinge District celebrated the official launch of community radio station FM Tongogara today, following the handover of broadcasting equipment. The ceremony was presided over by UNESCO Assistant Director-General Dr Tawfik Jelassi, with the Information Ministry represented by Deputy Minister Omupilo Marupi. The station is expected to serve as a vital platform for social cohesion, multilingual communication, and amplifying diverse voices within the refugee community.

The ceremony was graced by the Guest of Honour, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Dr Jenfan Muswere, represented by his deputy, Honourable Omupilo Marupi, alongside UNESCO Assistant Director-General Dr Tawfik Jelassi, who presided over the handover.

FM Tongogara is expected to serve as a vital platform for fostering social cohesion, amplifying diverse voices, and promoting multilingual communication within the refugee community.

The station’s establishment signals a new chapter in empowering residents through access to information, dialogue, and cultural exchange.
