Bulawayo City Council (BCC) health inspectors have condemned over 700kg of unwholesome meat in January, part of a wider effort to protect residents from unsafe food. The seizures included 428kg of uninspected beef, 150kg of rotten meat, and other expired or contaminated products.

The inspections, which covered supermarkets, butcheries, and food outlets, resulted in 32 tickets and 21 warnings issued to non-compliant businesses. A fast-food outlet was temporarily shut down due to poor hygiene.

Councillors praised the Health Committee's efforts but highlighted resource constraints, including a shortage of operational vehicles, hindering their work. "The committee is doing a commendable job, but they need more support," said Ward 24 councillor Aleck Ndlovu .
