Four suspects appeared in Harare court accused of trafficking Zimbabweans to Russia, where they were allegedly forced to fight in Ukraine. Obert Hlavati, Tonderai Maphosa, Tanaka Malcon Gwarada, and Edson Dudzayi Nyamudeza were charged with human trafficking.
The prosecution alleges the four, working with a Russian national, Ivan, recruited six victims with promises of firefighting jobs in Russia. Instead, they were forced to join Russia's special operation in Ukraine. The suspects used social media to recruit victims, and payments were made via EcoCash and a bureau de change.
