The government is investigating a "bureaucratic loophole" stalling BEAM payments for underprivileged learners. Deputy Finance Minister Kudakwashe Mnangagwa says his ministry will probe the issue after reports of inconsistent disbursements affected beneficiaries' access to quality education.
During a National Assembly Q&A session, CCC legislator Gladys Hlatswayo questioned the status of BEAM payments. Education Minister Torerai Moyo said schools should allow students to remain despite outstanding fees, adding, "The government will eventually pay."
Mnangagwa acknowledged a bureaucratic loop in the process, saying, "I was under the impression this had been resolved." A committee's been set up to monitor outstanding payments and issues involving three ministries.
