Highlanders FC has taken a bold step in appointing Thabo Senong as its new head coach, marking a new chapter in the club's history. Senong, a South African coach, joins the team alongside former youth international Mkhokheli Dube as his assistant. The appointment is significant, as Senong becomes the first coach from South Africa to take charge of a Zimbabwean club in 46 years.

The response among Bosso followers has been largely positive, with many believing that Senong's arrival could provide the spark needed ahead of the club's centenary celebrations. Senong brings an impressive résumé, having won the COSAFA Under-20 title with South Africa and guiding the same age group to two World Cup finals.   Follow & Share Our WhatsApp Channel

However, the challenge ahead is not an easy one. Former Premiership player and development coach Dumaza Dube said Senong's strength lies in rebuilding from the base, but noted that it won't be easy to lead the team forward. Former football commentator Sibongumusa Dlodlo echoed similar sentiments, stressing the need for unity and patience.

Zimbabwe Soccer Coaches Association official Bekhimpilo Nyoni urged patience, warning that expectations at Bosso are immediate and unforgiving. "It's an experiment. People must support what the club has done. Highlanders aim to win everything, but he is not coming with a guaranteed winning formula," Nyoni said.

The Highlanders board faces the task of reinforcing the squad following recent departures, as the new coach begins shaping his vision. The question remains whether Senong's South African tactical flair will blend successfully with Bosso's traditional running football. Only time and patience will tell.
