Man Kills Wife Over Accusations of Infidelity

A 26-year-old woman from the Chiwundura area outside Gweru was allegedly killed by her husband over accusations of infidelity. Midlands Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident.

According to Insp Mahoko, the incident occurred on December 20 at around 11 PM at Chinyama Village under Chief Gambiza, Gweru. The suspect, Brighton Kahlanga (31), allegedly assaulted his wife, Patience Madula, following a misunderstanding over accusations of infidelity. The assault occurred in the presence of Kahlanga's mother, who sought refuge at a neighbor's homestead.

During the alleged assault, Kahlanga called his brother-in-law, informing him that his wife had a boyfriend and that he wanted to kill her and commit suicide. The brother-in-law rushed to the scene and found Madula lying unconscious in a pool of blood with deep cuts all over her body.

The suspect has since disappeared from the scene, and a report has been made to the police at Muchakata Post. Insp Mahoko appealed to members of the public to solve disputes amicably and respect human life. He also called on anyone with information about Kahlanga's whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.

In a separate incident, a security guard at Tebekwe Mine in Shurugwi was killed by an artisanal miner who had trespassed into the company's gold claim through an underground tunnel on Friday night. The mine's chief security officer, Mr. Derick Dube, said that two of the illegal miners were arrested after security guards fired warning gunshots following a fierce battle in the tunnels.

The deceased security guard was identified as Tirivanhu Muradzikwa. Despite the attacks by illegal miners, Tebekwe Mine has ceded some of its mining claims to women, youth, and war veterans for their empowerment. The company has also continued with its philanthropy work in Zvishavane, Shurugwi, and Gweru during the festive season.
