It’s been a nightmare week for Masimba Holdings, with two of their staff dying in tragic circumstances in less than seven days.

The trouble started when a worker named Willington Dube was killed inside a concrete mixer on Monday.

The man operating the truck, 37-year-old Emmanuel Tachiona Chihanga, was accused of switching the machine on while Dube was still inside cleaning it. Follow us on our WhatsApp Channel

On Saturday morning, Chihanga took his own life. He reportedly left a suicide note saying he felt under far too much pressure to take the blame for his colleague’s death.

According to the Masvingo Mirror, he tried to end it by jumping in front of a Toyota GD6 at the 270km peg along the Masvingo-Harare Highway near Gokomere

The driver managed to swerve to miss him and went straight to the nearest tollgate to alert the police.

However, by the time they got back to the scene, Chihanga had jumped in front of another vehicle, which hit and killed him.

Masimba Holdings’ public relations officer, Pearl Mutiti, confirmed the incident but declined to comment further.

He added that the accident did not occur on company premises and that the police were best placed to provide details. Said Mutiti:

“We are aware of the accident and can confirm that the late was employed by Masimba Holdings.

“However, as this was not a work-related incident, the police are best placed to provide further details.”

He said the accident did not occur on company premises and that the police were therefore best placed to provide details. Said Patinyu:

“We recorded a fatal road traffic accident involving a pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle at the 270-kilometre peg along the Harare–Masvingo Road on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at around 0530 hours.

“The victim died on the spot, and investigations are ongoing.”
