MP Visits Families Affected by Kariba Disaster

 KARIBA - Kariba Member of Parliament, Hon. Shine Gwangwaba, on Sunday visited families in Kariba Urban affected by the Lake Kariba disaster that occurred on 11 August 2026, to convey condolences.

Hon. Gwangwaba was accompanied by Kariba Mayor Ralph Maoneyi and Councillors Tabvunya and Chiriseri.

The delegation also visited families that have taken in children orphaned by the tragedy.

Speaking after the visit, Hon. Gwangwaba said the tour gave them an opportunity to comfort the affected families and assess the welfare of the orphaned children.

"We spent the day in Kariba Urban comforting families following the Lake Kariba disaster," he said.

He said they also met families who had opened their homes to children who lost their parents in the disaster.

The visit comes as families in Kariba continue to grapple with the aftermath of the tragedy, with some households assuming responsibility for orphaned children.

The MP said the visit was part of efforts to stand in solidarity with the affected families and support the children during this difficult period.
