Members of Parliament have expressed concerns over Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) inland checkpoints on the Beitbridge-Gwanda road, citing inconvenience to travellers and traders. Senator Nonhlanhla Mlotshwa questioned the need for additional inspections after clearance at Beitbridge Border Post.
In response, Deputy Minister Kudakwashe Mnangagwa said checkpoints are necessary due to high smuggling rates through porous border areas. Zimra's actions are backed by the Revenue Authority Act and Customs and Excise Act, with security personnel present for national security.
Measures to improve border efficiency include upgrading Beitbridge Border Post, extending operating hours, and modernising systems. Processing times have reduced from 3 hours 42 minutes (2022) to 2 hours 45 minutes (2025).
