The Meteorological Services Department (MSD), in collaboration with the Department of Civil Protection, has issued a Level 2 weather warning for heavy rainfall, lightning, and strong winds expected across Zimbabwe from Sunday, December 21, to Wednesday, December 24, 2025.

In a statement released on Friday, the MSD said the likelihood of severe weather conditions is high, although the anticipated impact has been classified as minor. "The likelihood of severe weather is high, but the expected impact remains minor," the department said.

The warning applies to all provinces, with particular emphasis on flood-prone areas, including Masvingo, Manicaland, Harare Metropolitan, Mashonaland East, and Mashonaland Central. According to the forecast, some areas may receive more than 50 millimeters of rainfall within a 24-hour period, accompanied by hail, lightning, and strong wind gusts.

The MSD explained that the conditions are being caused by "warm, moist air interacting with low-pressure systems over the western and northern regions of the country." Members of the public have been urged to take precautionary measures to minimize risk and damage. "People are advised to secure rooftops, tie down loose items, ensure animals are safe, and trim overhanging branches," the statement said.

During storm activity, the public has also been cautioned against operating machinery or traveling in open vehicles, such as tractors. "The public is warned not to enter flooded areas and to avoid using taps and showers during thunderstorms," the MSD added. Authorities said they will continue monitoring the situation and issue further updates as conditions develop
