The robbery, which occurred along Jason Moyo Street between 8th and 9th Avenue in the city of Bulawayo on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, was reported without clarity on how the suspects carried out their operation.

According to The Herald, in a statement made by the Zimbabwe Republic Police National Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, "the suspects are said to have confronted a female employee as she was parking her vehicle at the Mukuru premises." The suspects allegedly forced the employee, under threat, to open the Chubb safe. The employee complied, giving the robbers access to the safe, which contained US$78,141 and R501,820.

Commissioner Nyathi further elaborated that the suspects went on to remove the digital video recorder (DVR) as a way of destroying evidence. This incident comes amid lingering concerns following the US$24 million Ecobank robbery that occurred in Bulawayo in October 2024.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has appealed to anyone with information to contact the National Complaints Desk at (0292)2735470 or 883930.
