Highlanders Football Club has ushered in a new chapter, announcing South African tactician Thabo Senong as its new head coach for the 2026 Premier Soccer League season.

Senong’s appointment, confirmed on Sunday, follows the departure of Dutch coach Pieter de Jongh, whose contract concluded at the end of December. The move signals Bosso's ambitious intent to end a two-decade league title drought, their last championship victory dating back to 2006.

The club’s leadership emphasized Senong’s proven track record in player development and elite football as key factors in his selection. He is renowned for his previous role as head coach of South Africa’s U-20 national team, Amajita, which he led to COSAFA U-20 glory in 2013. His coaching portfolio also includes stints with the senior national teams of South Africa and Lesotho.  Follow & Share Our WhatsApp Channel

“Thabo Senong brings a wealth of experience and a strong philosophy centered on tactical organization, youth development, and team building,” the club stated. “His achievements at the youth international level align perfectly with our vision for sustainable success.”

In a strategic move to bridge the club’s proud history with its new direction, Highlanders confirmed that former fan-favorite player Mkhokheli “Mkhu” Dube will return as an assistant coach. Dube’s deep-rooted understanding of the club’s culture is expected to be invaluable.

Mkhokheli Dube returns as a respected and familiar figure within the Bosso family,” the club added. “His passion, experience, and embodiment of our values will be crucial in motivating the squad and supporting the technical team’s integration.”

Highlanders indicated that further appointments to Senong’s technical staff will be unveiled in the coming weeks as the team begins preparations for the upcoming campaign
