The scandal surrounding Mutare-Sakubva District Hospital's eye unit has left patients worried about their access to essential medication.

With medication meant for over 400 patients allegedly siphoned, those relying on the unit's services are feeling the pinch.

The eye unit, which operates on just 12 patients weekly, had been a beacon of hope for many in the region.

However, the alleged corruption has put the unit's operations in jeopardy, with staff stretched thin and medication in short supply.

Cataract surgeries, a lifeline for many in the community, have ground to a halt.

"The theatre's been shut down due to lack of medication," said a hospital source. "It's devastating for patients who've been waiting months for their ops."

"I was supposed to get medication for my glaucoma, but they said it's out of stock," said a patient, who wished to remain anonymous. "What am I supposed to do now?"

The unit's struggles come as a blow to those relying on its services, highlighting concerns about accountability and transparency in Zimbabwe's healthcare system
