Manicaland, Friday, October 10, 2025 — His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the Chancellor of all state universities, presided over the 4th Graduation Ceremony of the Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences today, marking a significant milestone for the institution and its graduates.

The President officially declared the congregation duly constituted, setting the stage for the conferment of degrees and academic awards. The ceremony celebrated the achievements of students who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and academic prowess.

Highlighting the university’s commitment to innovation, Professor Albert Chahwanda announced a groundbreaking project funded to develop a driver sleep detection system aimed at enhancing road safety across Zimbabwe. This cutting-edge initiative employs artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies to monitor drivers in real time, detecting signs of fatigue and drowsiness through advanced facial and behavioral analysis.

Among the standout graduates, Gwarada Tamia, who earned a Bachelor of Commerce in Tourism and Hospitality Management, was named the overall best female student. She received the prestigious Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa Chancellor’s Award of US$1,000. Similarly, Chimano Wonder, a Bachelor of Commerce in Business Management graduate, was honored as the overall best male student and awarded the same distinguished prize.

Concluding the event, President Mnangagwa declared the ceremony officially closed, celebrating the success of the graduates and reaffirming the government’s support for higher education and technological advancement in Zimbabwe.

The 4th Graduation Ceremony not only marked academic accomplishments but also underscored Manicaland State University’s role in fostering innovation and preparing future leaders to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development.
