In a significant development for the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF), His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, has elevated two Brigadier Generals to the rank of Major General. The promotions, conducted in accordance with the Defence Act, came on the advice of the Minister of Defence and in line with recommendations from the Commander of the ZDF.


The newly promoted officers, Major-General Cephas Gurira and Major-General Funnie Mutizhe, have been recognized for their unwavering dedication and service to the nation. Previously serving as Commander of One Infantry Brigade, Major-General Gurira has been appointed as the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Chief of Staff Administration Staff. Major-General Mutizhe, who held the position of Senior Personal Staff Officer to the Commander ZDF, is awaiting a new assignment.

During the conferral ceremony, Commander Defence Forces General Emmanuel Matatu emphasized that the promotions are a testament to the officers' hard work, loyalty, and commitment to national duty. He also highlighted the significance of such advancements in empowering the Defence Forces to continue safeguarding Zimbabwe's sovereignty and security.

This recognition of leadership and excellence within the ZDF underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining a well-structured and efficient military force. The newly promoted officers are expected to play pivotal roles in advancing the operational and administrative capabilities of the army.
