Mudzi – In a significant step toward promoting inclusive and equitable education, Redeem Trust, a non-governmental organisation, on Wednesday donated 12,000 packs of sanitary pads to schools across four districts in Mashonaland East Province.
The handover ceremony was held at Kondo High School in Mudzi District and was attended by senior government officials, traditional leaders, educators, and students. The donation targets schools in Mutoko, Murehwa, Mudzi and Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe (UMP), with the aim of improving menstrual health management and reducing absenteeism among schoolgirls.
Speaking at the event, Acting Permanent Secretary and Provincial Education Director (PED) for Mashonaland East, Mrs A. Ncube, emphasised the importance of empowering the girl child through access to basic hygiene necessities. “Providing sanitary pads helps reduce absenteeism, boosts school attendance and enhances confidence in the classroom,” she said.
Mrs. Ncube also commended Redeem Trust for their generosity and urged continued collaboration with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. “Regular school attendance promotes high pass rates, and we welcome more partners like Redeem Trust in our efforts to uplift marginalised learners,” she added.
The Chief Director of Learner Welfare, Special Needs and Psychological Services (LEPS), Mrs. Maisiri, also welcomed the initiative, noting its alignment with the Ministry’s inclusive education agenda.
Chief Makota of Mudzi, who delivered the vote of thanks, expressed his gratitude to the Ministry, Redeem Trust, and other partners. “This donation is a huge step toward improving the welfare and dignity of girls in our communities,” he said.
The initiative forms part of the Ministry’s broader commitment to inclusive and heritage-based education, ensuring that no child is left behind due to socio-economic barriers.
