A Russian general was killed in a car blast in Moscow on Monday morning. Lt. Gen. Fanil Sarvarov, head of the Operational Training Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces' General Staff, succumbed to his injuries in the blast.

According to investigators, an explosive device detonated underneath his car, causing the blast. This is the third killing of a senior military officer in a year. Investigators suspect Ukraine's involvement in the incident.

A similar incident occurred last year in December, when Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov, the chief of the military's nuclear, biological, and chemical protection forces, was killed by a bomb hidden on an electric scooter outside his apartment building. Investigators are pursuing multiple lines of inquiry, including the possibility that the crime was orchestrated by Ukrainian intelligence services
