Tragedy struck the Tsanzaguru area when three children attempted to cross a flooded river by holding onto a cow's tail, resulting in one of them being swept away. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon and prompted the Macheke Sub-Catchment to close the Rusape Dam floodgates to reduce water levels and allow search efforts to continue.

According to Macheke Sub-Catchment manager Mr. Jonathan Mazani, the children tried to cross the flooded river while holding onto a cow. One child was swept away, another was marooned in the middle of the river, and the third managed to cross and raise the alarm. Authorities were notified in time, and the stranded child was rescued after water levels dropped.

The floodgates will remain closed as the search for the missing child continues. Mr. Mazani apologized for the inconvenience caused and expressed sympathy for the family of the missing child. The Rusape Dam is currently 90% full, and efforts are being made to locate the missing child .
