Trey Nyoni, an 18-year-old midfielder, has been making waves in the football world with his impressive skills and versatility on the field. Born in England to Zimbabwean parents, Nyoni is eligible to represent either nation at the international level. Currently, he has committed to playing for England through his youth appearances .

Nyoni's football journey began at Leicester City's youth academy, where he joined at the age of six. He progressed steadily through the age-group teams, eventually breaking into the under-18 team during the 2022-23 season. In September 2023, he signed for Liverpool for a reported £800,000 compensation fee . Follow & Share Our WhatsApp Channel

Since joining Liverpool, Nyoni has made significant strides in his career. He has played for the U18s, U19s, and U21s, and has even made his senior debut for the Reds. In February 2024, he became the youngest player to feature in the FA Cup for Liverpool, coming on as a substitute in a 3-0 win over Southampton .

Nyoni's dual eligibility has sparked interest from both the English Football Association and the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA). While he has represented England at the youth level, including appearances in friendlies and tournaments, he remains eligible to switch allegiance to Zimbabwe .

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar has advised ZIFA to move quickly to convince Nyoni to represent Zimbabwe, citing the player's potential value to the team. However, Nyoni's current focus appears to be on pursuing a senior call-up with England .

Nyoni has been a regular fixture in Liverpool's gameday squads, although he has limited game time. Despite interest from other clubs in loaning him, Liverpool intends to keep Nyoni at Anfield for the remainder of the season, with manager Arne Slot considering him valuable cover for the senior squad.
