The trial of former police detective Jaison Muvevi has opened at the High Court of Zimbabwe in Harare, where he faces four murder and four attempted murder charges linked to a 2022–2023 shooting spree across Harare, Hwedza and Mutare.

Muvevi, a former Zimbabwe Republic Police CID officer, is accused of killing four people, including Inspector Maxwell Hove, during a series of shootings before fleeing to Mozambique where he was arrested in January 2023.

The case was delayed for more than two years after Muvevi was committed to the Chikurubi Psychiatric Unit for mental evaluation. In December 2025, doctors declared him fit to stand trial, allowing proceedings to begin this week.

The High Court trial is scheduled to run from 16 to 20 March 2026, where prosecutors will present evidence across the eight charges. A conviction on murder charges could result in life imprisonment or the death penalty under Zimbabwean law.
