Veteran playwright and author Aaron Chiundura-Moyo has declared 2026 a year of “relentless creativity,” committing to an ambitious artistic drive despite the challenges of age.
The 71-year-old artist, reinvigorated after a difficult period, plans to produce two drama series, publish two books, and return to acting. “This year is going to be my hardworking year since age is not on my side,” he stated. “It’s no longer time to call it quits.”
Chiundura-Moyo’s resolve follows a year of both setback and surprise. In 2025, two of his set books were removed from the school syllabus without explanation, a blow that left him “heartbroken” and nearly ready to abandon the arts entirely. Follow & Share Our WhatsApp Channel
His fortunes changed dramatically toward the year’s end. New opportunities arose, including a successful proposal for creative workshops funded by the Culture Fund and European Union Zimbabwe. Then came an unexpected honor: businessman Wicknell Chivayo rewarded his five-decade contribution to the arts with a Toyota Fortuner GD6 and US$50,000 in cash.
“On the first day of the Harare workshop, heaven's doors opened,” Chiundura-Moyo recalled. “It was the shock of my life.”
Reflecting on his career’s ebbs and flows, he noted his ability to pivot between writing and screen production when one area faces obstacles. After quietly celebrating the festive season with rest and soccer, the veteran artist now enters the new year with renewed purpose, determined to give his life’s work “a final push.”
