Zimbabwe is considering a ban on social media for children under 18 as part of a new Child Online Protection Policy. Minister of Information Tatenda Mavetera says the government wants to protect young people from harmful content and promote safer online habits.

The proposed law would restrict minors from using social media platforms, with officials citing concerns about the impact on their future. "We want to protect the young generation by banning social media for children who haven't reached the maturity age of 18," Mavetera said.

The policy will also include programmes to guide children on responsible online behaviour. The move is part of the government's broader efforts to strengthen digital safety, aligning with President Emmerson Mnangagwa's vision for citizen protection online.
