In a significant move towards deepening bilateral relations, Zimbabwe and Zambia have launched the inaugural session of the Zimbabwe-Zambia Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Harare. The event, co-chaired by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Zambian counterpart President Hakainde Hichilema, aims to scale up multi-pronged and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two nations.
During the ceremony, President Mnangagwa emphasized the shared history, culture, and common aspirations between the two countries, highlighting the potential for greater cooperation in areas such as trade, transport, energy, and infrastructure. The BNC meeting culminated in the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the two governments, covering areas such as diplomatic training, labor and employment, youth affairs, immigration, and agriculture.
"We have a duty to ensure that we leverage each other's comparative advantages to leap forward the development, modernisation, and industrialisation of our respective countries," President Mnangagwa said, emphasizing the importance of joint efforts in driving economic growth and prosperity in the region.
