The Commander Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) lieutenant General Asher Walter Tafumaneyi has announced the death of Major General (Retired) Dr Herbert Chingono who died on 15 March 2026 at his farm in Mazowe after a short illness.
In a news release, The Commander ZNA said the army is sad to announce the death of the retired General officer.
Major General Chingono's Chimurenga name was Swift Chakanyuka.
Dr Chingono died at his Pentland Farm in Mazowe where he was staying.
He is survived by his wife Loyse Chingono, four sons Biltim Troy, Brian Kundai, Jemiad and Crag Herbert and two daughters Christine Tendai and Hayley Matipanyasha.
People are gathered at House Number 11 Southam Road Greystone Park in Harare.Burial arrangements will be announced later.
