The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a nationwide operation targeting vehicles without registration plates and those flitting with illegal sirens, blue lights, and other unauthorised gadgets. ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi says the operation covers all vehicles, including family cars, company vehicles, government vehicles, and public service vehicles.
Commissioner Nyathi says some motorists remove number plates to evade identification after committing crimes like armed robbery, kidnapping, and hit-and-run accidents. Others fit illegal sirens and lights, causing chaos on the roads and endangering users.
Vehicles without plates will be impounded and only released once registered and fitted with correct plates. Illegal gadgets will be removed on the spot, no excuses accepted. Commissioner Nyathi urges motorists to cooperate with police to maintain law and order.
