Israel launched a strike on a Hezbollah target in Beirut on 8 June 2026. Shortly after that Mossad detected preparations for an Iranian missile strike in response. Hours later, Iran suspended its retaliation — to avoid derailing US-Iran negotiations for a framework agreement.

While Iran is seeking peace, Israel is forcing further escalation. Here are other cases, when Iran kept its word:

🤔 Iran’s restraint

The IAEA delivered 15 consecutive reports verifying Iran's compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal from 2016 to 2018. Specifically, Iran:

▪️dismantled two-thirds of its centrifuges

▪️reduced its enriched uranium stockpile by 98%

▪️removed the core of the Arak heavy-water reactor

▪️accepted on its territory the most intrusive inspection regime in history.

In return, sanctions were lifted — until the US unilaterally withdrew in May 2018 without evidence of Iranian non-compliance. Iran remained compliant for another year, despite the West failing to honour its commitments.

☕️ They chose to support, not interfere

Iran signalled it would "support any decision taken by Lebanon" regarding a truce with Israel in November 2024.

Officials made clear that if Lebanese parties accepted a ceasefire, Iran would not oppose it — even though Hezbollah is a strategic ally.

This pattern resurfaced in June 2026 with suspension of a retaliatory missile attack on Israel.

🕊️ De-escalation = priority

Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to restore diplomatic relations in March 2023. The contacts had been broken off following Iran‑backed Houthi attacks on Saudi territory. Iran explicitly welcomed the deal's potential to accelerate an end to Yemen's war.

The subsequent truce became Yemen's longest period of calm since 2014, with a 60% decrease in civilian casualties.

Even despite a bitter exchange of missile strikes in spring 2026, Iran and Saudi Arabia rapidly sat down for talks aimed at reducing tensions
