HARARE – ZANU-PF held a “well-defined and robust gathering” at its cell structures across the country on Saturday, 27 June 2026, as senior party leaders joined ordinary members for the Cell Verification exercise during National Cell Day. 


The exercise was aimed at strengthening and consolidating the party’s grassroots structures nationwide, underscoring the importance of cells as the foundation of ZANU-PF. 

Among the senior leaders on the ground was Vice President General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga, who arrived at Chiwenga Village Dip Tank in Wedza to take part in the verification exercise. ZANU-PF National Chairperson, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, also participated at Mberi Cell under Tafara Branch in Mutasa Central Constituency, Manicaland, and while addressing party members in Ward 24 she emphasized the critical role grassroots structures play in strengthening and consolidating the ruling party’s foundation. ZANU-PF Secretary General, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, joined the exercise at Dete Community Hall in Hwange District, Matabeleland North Province. 

The verification exercise was held in several provinces simultaneously. In Kwekwe District, it took place early in the morning at Precabe Farm, Dambudzo 1 Cell, where ZANU-PF Politburo member Engineer Daniel Mackenzie and Dambudzo 1 Cell Chairperson Cde Liberty Siziba underscored the importance of the cell structure as the foundation of the party. In Matabeleland North, Provincial Chairperson Cde Richard Moyo was at Marsland Farm in Umguza District, while in Bulawayo, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Judith Ncube, led the exercise in Phelandaba Constituency, Cell H, participating as a member of the cell. 

In Mashonaland Central, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Honourable Zhemu Soda, who is also ZANU-PF Muzarabani DCC Chairperson, joined members at Muzungamwe Cell in Muzarabani North Constituency. In Midlands Province, Provincial Chairperson Cde Edias Chiherenge participated at Mabhunu Cell in Gokwe. 

Party leaders agreed that cell verification is key to strengthening and validating party structures from cell level to national level, and ZANU-PF said the programme is part of ongoing efforts to verify and strengthen grassroots structures across the country. Cells are regarded as the “heart” of ZANU-PF, where party mobilisation, member coordination, and community engagement begin.
