Finance and Health Ministers from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) have agreed to strengthen health financing, improve health systems, and enhance regional health security following a two-day meeting in Harare from 2 to 3 July 2026.
In a joint statement, the ministers said good health is fundamental to economic growth and development, and that poor health outcomes undermine livelihoods and national economies.
To address funding gaps, they pledged to increase domestic investment in health through fiscal reforms, expanded public-private partnerships, and innovative financing mechanisms.
The ministers also called for a coordinated regional response to the Ebola outbreak and expressed solidarity with affected countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
They stressed that stronger cooperation and sustained investment in health systems are critical to protecting populations and building a healthier, more productive SADC region.
