Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni is reportedly seeking an explanation from the country's Ministry of Finance following claims that an audit uncovered the alleged diversion of US$14 million earmarked for loan repayments.

The claims emerged in a social media post published on April 4 by the Facebook page africaviewfacts, which alleged that the President had demanded answers after the funds intended to service government loans were diverted.

The post has attracted significant public attention, generating more than 100 reactions and dozens of comments as Ugandans debated the allegations and called for greater accountability in the management of public resources.

However, by the time of publication, neither the Office of the President nor the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development had issued an official statement confirming the existence of the alleged audit findings or whether the President had formally directed an investigation.

The social media post did not identify the specific loan involved, the financial year under review, the government institution allegedly responsible, or provide a copy of the purported audit report to support the claims.

The allegations have nevertheless reignited public debate over transparency and financial accountability, with many social media users urging the authorities to clarify the matter through official channels while others cautioned against drawing conclusions before verified information is released.

The reports come as Uganda continues implementing public finance management reforms aimed at strengthening accountability and improving oversight of public expenditure. In recent years, President Museveni has ordered investigations into a number of audit queries raised by the Auditor General, with some cases resulting in disciplinary action against public officials.
